Narrow-Vein & Small-Tunnel Mining

Aug.11.2026

Typical Pain Points

Narrow-vein deposits — particularly in gold, silver, and high-grade copper — represent some of the most economically attractive yet technically demanding mining environments. The ore body width typically ranges from 0.5 to 2 meters, creating a fundamental mismatch between the valuable resource and standard mining equipment designed for tunnels at least 3 meters wide.

Diesel-powered machines operating in confined spaces create serious ventilation challenges. With limited air-exchange capacity in small cross-section tunnels, diesel particulate matter (DPM) and CO concentrations can exceed regulatory limits within 15-20 minutes of operation, forcing costly work stoppages or requiring expensive auxiliary ventilation infrastructure.

Space constraints extend beyond width. Tight turning radii in cross-cuts and drawpoints — often as narrow as 2.5 meters — mean long-wheelbase conventional trucks simply cannot maneuver. Operators face the choice between expensive civil works to widen tunnels (which may be uneconomical for narrow veins) or accepting suboptimal equipment that leaves ore behind.

Tuoxing Solutions

Tuoxing's narrow-vein fleet is purpose-built from the ground up, not retrofitted from larger models. The ultra-compact TC-0.6E electric scooptram, with a total machine width of just 1,150 mm, operates comfortably in tunnels as narrow as 1.5 meters. Its battery-electric powertrain eliminates exhaust emissions entirely, solving the DPM problem at its source while reducing ventilation energy costs by up to 40% compared to diesel alternatives in confined workings.

The TC-100E (1m³ bucket) builds on this philosophy for slightly larger narrow-vein operations, with an overall width of 1,405 mm and an articulated chassis design that achieves a turning radius up to 40% tighter than comparable rigid-frame machines. Both models feature low-profile canopies, reinforced wear plates on critical contact points, and operator cabins positioned for maximum visibility in low-height tunnels.

For haulage, the TU-6 underground truck — with a 6-tonne payload and compact 3.0 m³ dump box — maintains the narrow profile needed for small-section drifts while delivering the tramming capacity to keep production targets on track. The truck's articulated steering and short wheelbase ensure it follows the same tight corners as the loader without requiring intermediate passing bays.
